SUGGESTIONS AND COMMENTS
(affecting maintenance, improvements, and general condition of vessel)
1. The shower sump pump is inoperative. Suggest this pump be repaired or replaced.
2. The plastic tubing chafe/anchor guards on the bowsprit bobstay and bowsprit shrouds
fit snugly over the turnbuckles at the bow and prevent water from draining. Suggest guards
these be split or drilled so water will drain.
3. The swage fittings on the bowsprit stays are rusty due to water being trapped.
Suggest these fittings should be cleaned and the attendant wire closely inspected.
Consideration should be given to replacement of these stays if there appears to be
deterioration.
CASE NO. 99287 August 24, 1999
Page 11
RECOMMENDATIONS
(affecting safety, security, seaworthiness and insurability of vessel)
A. The propulsion engine exhaust hose from the muffler to the hull exhaust port fitting
is deteriorated. This hose should be replaced.
B. The cockpit scupper hoses are deteriorated. These hoses should be replaced.
C. The 12 volt electric bilge pump hoses from the pump to the siphon break fitting and
from the siphon break fitting to the through-hull fittings are deteriorated. These hoses
should be replaced.
D. The manual bilge pump hose from the pump discharge outlet to the through-hull
fitting is deteriorated. This hose should be replaced.
E. The clamp securing the manual bilge pump suction fitting to the hose is rusted. This
clamp should be replaced.
F. N.F.P.A. 302 code 8-15.7 requires that 120 volt receptacles that are installed in
head, galley and machinery space, be protected by a Type A ground fault circuit
interrupter (GFCI). The receptacles in the galley and head compartment should be replaced
with GFCI type receptacles.
G. There is a pin hole leak in the head compartment sink drain bronze check valve and
the drain hose is deteriorated. This valve and hose should be replaced.
H. The propane piping system was pressurized to 150 p.s.i. by opening the propane
cylinder valve. The valve was closed and the system pressure fell approximately 20-25
p.s.i. in one hour. This system should be checked for leaks, repaired as necessary and
proven.
I. N.F.P.A. 302 code 10-2.1.1 requires that all extinguishers located in accommodation
spaces shall have Class A capability. Portable extinguishers in the accommodation spaces
should be replaced with a minimum of U.S.C.G. Approved Type A-B-C, size 1 extinguishers,
and mounted in approved type brackets.
J. The clamps securing the head raw water intake hose at the seacock are rusty. These
clamps should be replaced.
K. The stern and masthead (steaming) lights are inoperative. These lights should be
repaired or replaced.
L. The rudder post packing gland is leaking excessively. This packing gland should be
tightened or packing replaced.
M. The locknut on the bobstay turnbuckle at the bowsprit is loose. This lock nut should
be properly tightened.
Recommendations are made in compliance with N.F.P.A., A.B.Y.C. standards and good
seamanlike practices.
